CHARISMATEK Software Metrics’ Function Point WORKBENCH™ software is much more than just a Function Point Count repository. Instead, it provides a range of features that both substantially enhance the Function Point Analysis process and aid in the overall management and control of software projects.
The WORKBENCH incorporates a complete Functional Sizing Methodology. The embedded methodology provides full coverage for the leading IFPUG CPM 4.2.1 Functional Size Measurement Method (the WORKBENCH is certified by IFPUG as Function Point Software Type 1), helps ensure that all Function Point Counts are fully auditable and defendable and facilitates the WORBENCH’s sophisticated communication, analysis and reporting functionality.
WORKBENCH users perform their Function Point Analysis by building functional models of their projects’ or applications’ functionality within the tool’s primary workspace. These models can be easily extended to address future enhancement projects and changes in project or application scope and can be customised to highlight the size and nature of specific functionality of interest in a manner and with an ease that is simply not possible without the WORKBENCH.
The WORKBENCH’s automated counting features (patent pending) provide the most sophisticated facilities available to ensure that users perform their Function Point Counts as quickly, consistently and accurately as possible.
The WORKBENCH goes beyond the typical ‘simplistic’ approach to top-down project effort and cost estimation. User defined ‘Productivity Sinks’ allow multiple different productivity rates to be identified within a single project. Functionality can be allocated to specific Sinks to estimate the effort or cost of an individual Sink or of the entire project and to fully explore various ‘what if’ scenarios. The generated Function Point Size can also be exported for use with a range of compatible estimation tools and techniques.
The WORKBENCH includes a range of reporting options. Detailed and Analysis Reports address all relevant issues relating to an individual Function Point Count, including its breakdown by both standard and user-defined attributes. Portfolio Reports address issues relating to an organisation’s software portfolios, including project growth as a result of ‘scope creep’, change in application size over time, total delivered work product and total software portfolio size. The WORKBENCH – Publisher allows new and customised reports addressing an organisation’s own specific requirements to be easily generated and utilised.
At the completion of the course, participants will be able to utilise the Function Point WORKBENCH™ to:
Perform, analyse and report on all their Function Point Analysis tasks;
Build preliminary and detailed functional models of software projects and applications and communicate software functionality and related issues using those models.
