SMRe Software Measurement, Reporting and Estimating
SMRe from Q/P Management Group
automates software project estimating and the reporting of project
performance metrics.
Early in the project lifecycle, SMRe
estimates project size, effort, cost, schedule, staffing and defects using either
industry standard or user-defined benchmarks.
At project completion, SMRe captures
project data, reports project performance and compares that performance
against
either industry standard or user-defined benchmarks.
 |
SMRe has been specifically
designed to work with the
Function Point WORKBENCH™ in order to share relevant data to aid in the
production of software estimates and benchmark reports. |
Intuitive User Interface
Uses enter their project details via SMRe's intuitive user interface.
Project details include size, effort, cost, schedule, staffing and defects.
Project size can be entered directly or it can be
imported from the Function Point WORKBENCH.

Enter project identification details.
Configuration and Customisation
SMRe
comes preloaded with a full set of standard templates and benchmark
data to allow users to immediately begin generating estimates and
benchmarking their projects.

Enter estimated effort details for each project phase within the current methodology..
In addition, SMRe
can be configured and customised to support an
organisation's specific requirements and software delivery environment.
Configuration and customisation includes:

Create new or customise existing
methodologies.

Configure staffing categories and their cost rates.
Project Estimation
Early in the project lifecycle, SMRe
estimates project size, effort, cost, schedule, staffing and defects using either
industry standard or user-defined benchmarks.
Project Size
If available, project size, expressed using IFPUG
Function Points, can be entered directly into SMRe
or can be easily imported
from the Function Point WORKBENCH. In cases where project
size is not available, either because Function Point Analysis has not yet
been completed or because the project's requirements are still to be
completed, SMRe's Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM)
Profiles can be used to quickly
and easily estimate likely project size.
Project Effort, Cost, Schedule, Staffing and Defects
SMRe
estimates key metrics for a project based upon a selected software delivery methodology, benchmark
data and its Risk Estimate Adjustment Algorithm. This algorithm
incorporates either user-defined or default values for a range of key
project drivers.
Remember, SMRe's methodology, benchmark data and
estimation algorithm can all use either industry standard or user-defined settings and values.
Project Benchmark Reporting and Comparison
At project completion, SMRe captures
project data, reports project performance and compares that performance
against
either industry standard or user-defined benchmarks.
SMRe displays a project performance
snapshot.

Project performance snapshot and comparison with user-defined benchmarks.
SMRe
provides the following report types:

Project Productivity report for a single project.

Lifecycle Chart report for a single project.

Key Metrics comparison for a selection of projects.

Project Quality report for a selection of projects.

Select projects to be combined and
reported upon using Roll-Up Reports.

Estimating Accuracy report for a selection of projects combined into one.
Exporting to External Applications
All of SMRe's reports can be exported to Microsoft Word
or Powerpoint.
Effective software project estimation and
benchmarking rely upon having an clear and accurate measure of software
project size.
For SMRe
users who are also Function Point WORKBENCH
users, by far the best and easiest way to enter a project's size is by
importing it from the WORKBENCH. Doing so allows sizing data to be maintained in a single centralised location in the WORKBENCH
database and helps ensure that the size used in SMRe
is always up to date and can
be easily updated if it changes, such as may occur if there are changes to
the project's scope.

In the Function Point WORKBENCH, select
project Counts for export to SMRe.

In SMRe, select Project Counts from the Function Point
WORKBENCH for import and analysis.
